My other favorite Bangali Babe Rani started out small and awkward, but now she is one of the biggest stars in Hindi Cinema...her roles have been diverse and different, and she took the risk of being deglamourized in films like Yuva and Black.. and came with outstanding peformances. I love Rani with SRK..I thought they had excellent chemeistry in CC,Paheli. I loved her with Abhi in B&B, and Yuva...and again she had great chmeistry with himi too. This tells me that this Babe has outstanding talent!!

Yay, a Rani thread. Honestly, I really disliked her at the beginning of her career, only because of KKHH. I felt that she got in the way of SRK and Kajol. But after watching her more and more, I really started liking her. I love her voice, I know it's different, but it makes her unique. She's a great actress, which is evident in Black. She's my favorite actress along with Kajol (I can't choose between the two). I can't wait to see her with SRK in KANK.

*Sigh* I love Rani. Though it took me a while to get into the 'I love Rani' club (I had my issues with her) but I got there in the end! Black was the film that changed my opinion of her as an actress. She went from 'okay' to 'awesome' with that. It took 'Chori Chori' for make me realise she had become one of my favourites. And the promos of KANK have made me like her even more. Kajol is still my all time fave, but go Rani!

She was great in BnB too. I loved the way she cried at the train station, and near the lake when she was remembering her parents.

Rani definitely grew on me. I like her voice and think she is absolutely beautiful. I didn't like Paheli as a movie and didn't like her in it (even a double dose of Shah Rukh didn't save the movie for me), but I know I'm in the minority on that.
Question: two different people (random people whom I don't know) have now said that they think Rani's biggest downfall is her small stature; i.e., she is very short and "looks funny" on stage during live performances. As a short woman (I'm barely 5' 1"), I don't understand why that should matter. If she is a good dancer (which I think she is), what is the big deal.
I know Bollywood is obsessed with light skin, but is height another thing that somehow matters way than it should?

Well, I saw her up close at the Temptations concert, and I didn't even think a second about her height. She danced wonderfully, and didn't look funny at all.

My first BW films were K3G and KKHH so naturally I learned to think of Rani as the "other woman" (thanks, KJo ). But pretty soon I saw Hum Tum, which I enjoyed a lot, and then I saw her in Veer-Zaara and was blown away by her performance. VZ was very much Rani's film to me. After that came BaB, Yuva, Mangal Pandey, Black.. I can't remember the exact order I saw the latter Rani movies in but I'm glad I saw her films in a rather backward order because all the fantastic performances of recent years quickly convinced me Rani was THE working actress whose career I should keep an eye on. Definitely one of my favourite actresses.

I had no trouble loving Rani at all. I think I saw her first in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, and they presented her as this tranquil, loving wife who had smiles for everyone. When she fell and hurt herself, I had a physical reaction to it. Even today I feel just about the same. She seems like this tiny bundle of joy. I especially liked her in Hum Tum. And with Abhishek she seemed perfect.

And with Abhishek she seemed perfect. Yea, I think so too. Abhishek was the perfect choice for the guest role in Hum Tum. They make a great couple.

Ha, I watched Hum Tum with some friends and the scenes where we find out what happened to Abhi's character, my friend went "Aww, shame, he and that girl were so cute together!".

What about her as a human being do you dislike? I'm curious because all actors and actresses put on a persona for the media, or keep to themselves. Very few of them show us enough so we can say we know them. They may show bits and pieces (Aamir's activist side, Ajay's private side, Preity's bubbly side, etc.), but we don't know them well enough to say they are good or bad.

I don't mind that she keeps quiet about her personal life. Its her business, and i cant say anything about her as a human being because i dont know her. But as an actress she is amazing. No one else could have done black (EXCEPT maybe Kajol but even that is questionable). And finally Karan gave her a REAL part in his movie in KANK

she has a tendency to suck up to all the directors ,actors n producers.and that reallyy annoys me n whats with her attitude after the so called stardom she acquired?real snob.n something about her just freaks the hell out of me as soon as i just see her.so its just that.thats my opinion n am not defending any of her fans here.i disliked her from her kkhh days(for obvious reasons) n after chori chori i stopped watching all her films though i watched black recently.
n i dont wanna know anything about her personal life not interested one bit about what she does with her life.but whenever she comes on screen(on tv)n other interviews n functions she is such a big turn off.being just the sooo sweet n sugary gurl in front of the camera n being a snob off the camera is such a turn off.ufffffff!!!!!am saying it again no offence to any of her fans.this is just my opinion.sorry if it offended u!

and you say thins based on what? that she gets the best roles...with the best production houses? we can say the same about Priety also...but the matter of the fact , that Rani is a great actress with a huge fan following..she doesn't need to suck up to anybody. the poducers and directors need her not the other way around.
. what attitude? She was always reserved and soft spoken, and never changed that demeanor......she has a different personality than say Kajol who is more outspoken and some people find that rude and brash...but still both act true to their nature, and I find that sweet actually. as for her freaking you out...then I must say there must be wrong with you, if a beautiful soft spoken woman does that to you.
disliking a human being because of a role they did in a movie is the highest form of silliness I have to say!
. if you don't know anything about her personal life, how can you state then that she is a bad human being?
why get offended? all what you have said was misguided rants that have no facts in them...nothing to worry about at all
P.S. please use proper English in your posts.

Anyway, back to Rani! I know some people here really liked Paheli and I was very lukewarm about the movie (found it a bit boring) and I didn't see that much chemistry between Shah Rukh and Rani (maybe it was the mustache, who knows?!). I have said before that I wish she and Juhi had switched roles (though that would not have really worked as Rani looked younger than Juhi). Anyone else a bit "conflicted" about her role in Paheli?
