My sense of this movie is that it got Kajol back. Now we need another movie by someone who really understands what Kajol can do. I don't think Kunal Kohli is the guy. He did wonders with Rani and Saif, but Kajol needs a different director. I think we have Bingo here!!! the question is which director? is it Karan?

the question is which director? is it Karan? I, for one, would love to see her work with Mani Ratnam. I think he is one director who can bring out the best in his actors and I believe Kajol is an actress who still has more to give in terms of her acting. MR may be the right person in getting it out of her.

Two names occur to me: SL Bhansali and Rituparno Ghosh. Plus, I don't want to forget the women: Meghna Gulzar (Filhaal) and Aparna Sen.

with her comeback to the industry she gave a great performence and showed everyone that she is no.1 and no one can take her place.

I think Kajol can do a great job with just any director and I don't think Kunal Kohli hindered her performance in any way in Fanaa. I think the script wasn't perfect and it resulted in a film with many flaws but Kajol's performance, or Aamir's for that matter, were not hindered by these, they both did an amazing job.
I'd love to see her work with Mani Ratnam, as well. Bhansali's style I dislike, but Ratnam would be splendid.
Sadly it has to be said that Kajol doesn't often go for non-mainstream which Mani often represents.

I admit I was disappointed by the movie (lots of people were) because I had high expectations, but the soundtrack I loved from day one. I love all the songs: Chand Sifarish, MHM, Dekho Naa, and the instrumental. The other 3 ar Ok as well. I was surprised to see most people thought it wa average to really bad. I gusse fanaa music super Hit? ?

Fanaa to me was a "vehicle". It got Kajol back on the screen. Now the question is can we keep her there. We all went to the movie, we all praised her contribution. Will the producers see that and bring her GOOD scripts so that she can feel good about the work she is doing? The fact is that not many movies made this year are that good. The competition is on the financial end, not the quality end. Fanaa kept up with the financial competition, but I feel that Kajol won't be satisfied with that for long. She wants to be proud of whatever she's a part of. So that's why I hope someone with an idea like Black, Page 3, My Brother Nikhil thinks "Kajol is now there for the asking and I want her."

Sadly it has to be said that Kajol doesn't often go for non-mainstream which Mani often represents. I think Kajol would do a Mani Ratnam film, she's a huge fan of his work and has said he is her favourite director. I'm sure if she was offered the oppurtunity to work with him, she'd take it. It's shame she didn't do Dil Se, she would have been mind blowing.

It's shame she didn't do Dil Se, she would have been mind blowing. I agree that she will most likely do it, but I'm glad she was not in Dil Se. Despite the fact that I love Kajol and any chance to see her on-screen with Shah Rukh is most welcome, Kajol is simply "too beautiful" for Manisha's role in Dil Se. I'm not trying to put Manisha down or give Kajol a random compliment. But the fact is that Dil Se followed the various states of the Sufi path and Shah Rukh represented "majnoon" -- the famous lover. Now in the story of Laila (aka Leyli) and Majnoo, Laila is supposed to be an ordinary girl, somewhat unattractive according to some interpretations of Nezami's story. Manisha's look in Dil Se was the perfect portrayal of the Laila-like character. I think if they had cast Kajol in that role, she would not have been able to help but look stunning and it would have ruined the spirit of that Sufi love story.

Well, Mani is *the* director in whose films BW big stars star if they want to "alternative" projects.. But still, if she has two competing offers, I can see her picking up the more commercial one. Then again, we can always hope. And no, I'm not fantasizing that she'd be in the film Mani's planning to do with Aamir. That would be too good.

definately. seeing aamir and kajol together has made me fall in love, compeltely and truly. even though kajol and shahrukh rock...aamir comes extremely close. mani would make em look amazing, but i think kunal is our director of the year...century.. he's just rocked in both of his movies. i wasn't disappointed with fanaa one bit, just one thing...they shouldn't have killed ALL the people that they did. killing aamir was perhaps very realistic, and though it made me cry my eyes out, it was probably the right thing to do, but the others..like rishi kapoor, and kirron and jolly singh...meh...nooo!

Just watched Fanaa on the pirated dvd. The quality is out of this world. But still will get the regular one for the special features. This is one of the few times that I'm thankful that I'm in a place where Bollywood isn't hyped up and people have no idea what BW is. So, I don't have that much to get hyped up on and get all the information about new releases. I do get excited though but don't have high expectations because I don't have much to go on. Maybe others found the movie flawed (although I agree, the story was a bit rushed and confusing in the beginning), but I found it pretty good. Almost exactly to my expectations. Kajol's acting was more than perfect. I got goosebumps from her reaction when she saw Rishi under the ice. Aamir was great. He was exactly the Aamir we know and love. Now this statement is going to get me some enemies and I really am sorry, it's just my opinion. But while Kajol looked like Kajol (and in fact better), Aamir looked slightly..... old. I'm not saying that he needs to do father roles. He just looked quite different to me all of a sudden. The music I must admit is not one of my favorite soundtracks. Truly I liked only Chanda Chamke before watching but afterwards, I loved almost all the songs, especially MHM. I agree with veracious, the CGI "Rishi fall" and Rehan killing Jolly were just a bit too much. I felt that the whole story went by too fast so about 8 out of 10.

Aamir looked old in the first half and the hair did him no favours. He looked a lot better in the second half, but they might have as well have swapped his look from the first half with that of the second. Would have worked better. Glad you liked it. I need to get this film on DVD and see it again, I'm not that fond of it at the moment. Hopefully I'll change my mind once I see it again.

Yeah, it might've been the hair. Aamir looked much better in Mere Haath Mein than Chand Sifarish (please excuse spelling). Well, Fanaa is definitely not going to be as loved as DDLJ or KKHH. Maybe it's because SRK wasn't in it. But part of me is glad. Aamir had great chemistry w/ Kajol anyway. Problem is, I think this movie would've been an even bigger hit if SRK was in it. And that makes me wonder whether I would've liked it even more than I do now if it was SRK. Also the other reason for Fanaa not being huge is that DDLJ and the others had a more romantic storyline (at least for the ending).

I'm just saying that I think Fanaa won't be as great 10 years from now, like DDLJ is now. I definitely think Aamir was made for Rehan. I was just thinking of how much bigger it would've been if SRK had been in it. You have to admit that there would've been a gigantic crowd for that.
