Kajol looked awesome in this movie and gave a brilliant performance. She was mesmerising on screen and watching her was such a joy. She really does need to come back to films.
Though I was dissapointed with the film overall. Kunal was unable to handle the script and although he did an okay job, considering the leap he took going from something like 'Hum Tum' to 'Fanaa,' I wasn't impressed.
Aamir and Kajol are the saving grace of this film and I'm happy they were both able to rise above the script the way they did.

Kajol and Aamir gave a superb performances...but that's the only good thing about the film.Kunal Kohli is the most inept director out there...he butchered the story, didn't have a good script, the music was average....the film lacked logic, give Fanaa to Mani Ratnam or AG...and we would have gotten a masterpiece! with KK, it was a glorious mess!!!
poor Kajol and Aamir..they deserved better!

DTPH made so much money...doesn't make me happy that SRK was in it! it was a bad film!!! I absolutely agree with this (and annous' post above). I came out of the movie theater dying to love Fanaa! I was trying so hard it almost hurt! But the more I have thought about it, the more I realize that I don't hate the film because Aamir and Kajol were superb and because I generally liked the story, but I also don't love the film because it had too many flaws despite its amazing potential. Bad movies are just that; they are bad and you move on (anyone seen, I don't know, Deewane? Though you can pick almost any one of the 700+ flops a year that come out of Bollywood). But Fanaa wasn't a typical bad movie. It had so much potential that it was an aggravating movie for me!! I agree with annous that in the hands of another director, it could have been a masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, I still will buy the DVD (merely because of AK/Kadz) and I actually really liked Chand Sifarish, Rangeela and Mere Haath Main (I know I'm in the minority). But I cannot in good conscience call this movie a masterpiece because it was far from it. Did I enjoy it? Yes, because I enjoy almost anything with Kajol and Aamir in it!! .... almost!! And a good example of why annous is right is Dil Se. Excellent movie that flopped miserably at the box office. That one I'm glad Shah Rukh did!! ;D

Surprisingly (to me), the songs were not received well. I don't know if it was something I ate or just my mood (!) but when I heard Mere Haath Main for the first time, I nearly cried and I had not even seen the movie or knew what it was about. And Chand Sifarish really got stuck in my head for a long time. Rangeela, I only liked after I saw the film.
Maybe I like the lyrics because they have a lot of Urdu/Persian words in them and they just sound familiar in tone and words to me. I was surprised so many people disliked the soundtrack and some down right hated it.

I loved Chand Sifarish when I first heard it, but my favourite was and still is MHM. Beautiful song and very underrated IMO. I'm not surprised the soundtrack was put down the way it was, overall it was a weak album considering all the hype the film gotten.
Chanda Chamke and Dekho Na are forgettable. Like you Sam, I only liked Des Rangila after seeing the film.

I agree, I was also surprised by how "weak" the soundtrack was for such a big-budget, big-name, big-everything(!) movie. And when I saw the movie, I was irritated by the repetition of the songs at every instance. I completely understand the whole thematic approach and the continuity, but I thought it worked much better in Veer-Zaraa, whereas it just seemed like a "false start" in Fanaa every time they "appeared" to be starting MHM.
That song give me chills, though, I don't know why!

**Sam** thanks for the backup ;D!!
my biggest disappointment with Fanaa is that it had a huuuge potential that was not realized!! this is no ordinary film, it had Kadz coming back after so long, it had Amir in a romantic role after so long.....but things started wrong with the director, then the less than ordinary music.... I went to this film with high hopes..and it disappointed big time

**Sam** thanks for the backup ;D!! You are welcome, yaar, anytime! That's exactly it! I think if it were five years from now and I had randomly come across this movie (as I am coming across a lot of older Aamir or Kajol movies from the 90s), I would have liked it a lot more. But the hype and the anticipation made it impossible not to be critical. From Kajol who was on leave for so long and from Aamir who is so picky about his movies, you just naturally expect the absolute best. Pity!

The fact that I had been looking forward to it since it was announced did not help lower my expectations. I think those who had no expectations for it, are the ones who enjoyed it. For those (like myself) expecting to see a brilliant film after having seen all the promos and stills, were left dissapointed. I'll definately be buying the DVD one it comes out though. Edit - What Sam said.

I liked the movie, it was good timepass, but I really loved seeing Kajol again. She looked so beautiful, and did a great job as Zooni. I hope she continues to act, and doesnt go into hibernation again.

I admit I was disappointed by the movie (lots of people were) because I had high expectations, but the soundtrack I loved from day one. I love all the songs: Chand Sifarish, MHM, Dekho Naa, and the instrumental. The other 3 ar Ok as well. I was surprised to see most people thought it wa average to really bad.

I was a Fanaatic for when the film was coming out.. Checking news for it, promos etc every day. It was a great experience, looking forward to film, speculating, listening to the soundtrack until my iPod became FanaaPod etc. It did increase my expectations, enormously, and to be honest, if Fanaa had been all that it could've been, it would've been a film almost too good to be true. I think that's pretty much it - it's hard not to be let down and that sucks, because Fanaa, when you walk in not expecting it to rock your world, it can and will rock your world. Thankfully before I saw it, my expectations were lowered by other people's comments of "It rocks with Aamir-Kajol but otherwise just okay" etc. I saw it without subtitles and understood very little of the actual dialogues (afterwards people told me what they were saying in certain scenes) but it felt like I understood enough because I understood the emotions and the main plot just fine. And that's Bollywood's greatest strength and downfall - emotions. If you connect to a film emotionally, it's so easy to ignore an illogical plot, lack of this, lack of that. You just watch and feel the movie. Switching off of brain is allowed. I think Fanaa could be so much better - first I would give Rehan of the first half a haircut, second I would edit out Rishi's CGI falling, third I would make Rehan not kill Jolly Good Singh, fourth I would make Rehan's head wound disappear so he could get rid of that awful headband earlier (no reason for him to not look as good as he does in Mere Haath Mein!). But you know, right now when I think of Fanaa as a film, I don't care about Aamir's Mission Impossible stunts or the dumb parts or the Bollywood medicine or any of these things. The emotional part, Zooni and Rehan and the way I just started *feeling* these characters over-rode all of these dumb factors. I fell in love with the concept early on (blind girl falls for terrorist) and the way it was carried out with these characters was just beautiful and heart-breaking for me. I wasn't disappointed in that at all and everything I was disappointed in just stopped mattering. So yeah, I give this film a 9/10 and after I see it on DVD, I will decide whether that mark goes up to 10/10 or whether it gets lowered to 8/10. Oh, and the soundtrack gets too much rag IMO. It's way superior to your average Himesh Reshmiyya soundtrack, beautifully melodious and fits the film. I get a lump in my throat whenever I listen to Mere Haath Mein and the picturization (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLFjIHLhwas&search=fanaa) is gorgeous. It's a jodi manifesto and a showcase of the acting talent of Kajol and Aamir. It's not the perfect film, not by far, but it can be the perfect film experience.

My sense of this movie is that it got Kajol back. Now we need another movie by someone who really understands what Kajol can do. I don't think Kunal Kohli is the guy. He did wonders with Rani and Saif, but Kajol needs a different director.
