Have i been out of HW too long? I mean i dont keep up with much but i think i'm missing something. What is wrong with Van Damme? and why is he being criticised so for being at IIFA? really i'm seriously not insulting anyone here, i just dont understand. Maybe i really have been keeping up with only BW, cos the only HW news i known for the past year is Tom & Brad's kids (not together of course ). So could someone explain please? i'd appreciate.

S_S...I don't critisize Van Damm for eing there, I blame the IIFA officials who invited the worst C grade actor available and made him master of ceremony.......is Van Damme the best they could come up with?

I'd like to see Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom. I heard somewhere they're going to be making a film which will be shot partly in India. If this is true, I hope they can rope the two into attending. That'd be great! ;D

I was annoyed for precisely the same reason annous said. To me, it belittled Hindi cinema to have someone like Van Damme be the "best they could get" as if Hindi cinema is not important or good enough for anyone else.
But I have another, somewhat related, question. Why is the ceremony held abroad and why do they have Hollywood MCs?

Sam, I think it's more to 'internationalize' Bollywood. They get Hollywood stars (if you can call Van Damme that), and hold it internationally.

Filmfare because its older or IIFA because, well its more recognised these days anyway

Filmfare.
IIFA is an important ceremony for 'internationalizing' Bollywood, but Filmfare is considered the Oscar equivalent.

ccol. just that i've read that IIFA is also considered it. but it makes sense for it to be Filmfare (even though they gave best music 2004 to Main Hoon Na - over Veer-Zaara!!!)

Indian film awards are always sort of here or there.. I only really respect the critical award of National Award, where South Indian stars and films are also considered as winners.
