one of the most beloved films of SRK and Kadz... sweet story, that marked the debute of Karan Johar.......the film is too high in saccharine..but somehow it worked and it worked beautifully!!
SRK-Kadz , what can you say? the perfect couple...the Gazebo scene will go down as the sexiest and hottest ever(for me at least ;D)
let's discuss!!!

Ah dude, this is the film that got me hooked to Bollywood.
I mean, what can you say? The first half as cheesy as it was at times, was so enjoyable and potrayed the friendship between Rahul and Anjali perfectly. The changing feelings of Anjali and especially the scene where she dresses up to impress Rahul, as hilarious as it was, made my cry.
Of course the heartbreaking 'I love you' scene along with 'Tujhe yaad na meri aye'. I was bawling like a baby throughout.
Second half rocked, though the little Anjali did annoy me...a lot. The scene where they see other again for the first time, again I cried. Gazebo scene, hot hot hot!
Both Kajol and SRK were too awesome in this film. Though my impression of Rani was not a good one. For quite a few years I knew her as 'the one who became in between SRK and Kajol.' Though now she's one of my favourite actresses.
The soundtrack wasn't all that though, except for the title song which I adore and of course TYNMA.
But overall, brilliant film!

The first half is very cheezy. I always forward to the train scene, which I still cry at. The second half is much better. And of course, the gazebo scene is smokin. ;D

Oh my God, I totally forgot about the train scene! Oops, my bad.
I bawled like a baby during that. Every look both SRK and Kajol gave was just heartbreaking and the way SRK's expression changed when she's moved out of sight, just killed me.

I always thought the whole college bit was very over the top, but it's BW, so I accept that! The second half is almost a different movie, though, starting with the train scene!

Loved the gazebo scene, but I also loved the engagement party scene with one of my favorite songs of all movies, Saajanji Ghar Aaye. I don't know how many times I've listened to that song, but I know its many many. As romantic scenes go, though, the gazebo scene is tops. And one of the SADDEST scenes of all time is when Anjali leaves, thinking Rahul is gone for her forever.

One of the MOST emotional moments is when Rahul and Tina laugh at Anjali. It is so crushing and I feel so BAD for her because up to that point she hasn't been shamed in public. Or private, as much as you can tell. Suddenly the whole world seems distant and she is so alone. You can't help but hurt for the character because she is every human being then, not just an abstraction. Rahul and Tina aren't bad people, they are just average people who don't understand how much like a twisting knife their laughter is.
Ah, sigh, such a story!

I can't bring myself to watch that scene. Makes me sad just thinking about it. That's why I skip it.

I can appreciate what you mean. It takes guts to put that in a script, but it makes a movie memorable. It took some time for me to get used to Bollywood movies because they crash you down so hard. I mean, remember Pooja in Hum Aapke Hain Koun? I wasn't ready for that at all. In fact, after my first 50 or so movies, I had decided there was a rule in Bollywood that your heart had to be broken somewhere in the story or its not Bollywood. I don't know if I still believe in the rule, but it was pretty accurate for the first bunch of movies I saw. Obviously it didn't stop me watching, but it sort of put me on edge since I knew something HORRIBLE was going to happen.

love her but cant tell her? monika adaluha, new delhi july 1,2006
Remember Anjali aka Kajol in Karan Johar's directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, who was madly in love with her best friend Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan)?
They laughed together, cried together but all through Anjali failed to share her feelings with her object of affection though she kept on repeating "kuch kuch hota hai Rahul par tum nahin samjhoge."
It was love actually, then what made Anjali hold back her emotions? Was it the fear of rejection? Yes, perhaps. Like Amrita, who was in love with her schoolmate Amitesh for almost a decade, ever had the courage to reveal her feelings, thinking that in the process to win his love, she might lose his friendship. Factors behind this fear But what is the cause of this fear? You feel fear of rejection if you attach too much importance to other people and how they feel about you.

Remember what happened to Anjali when she did let her feelings out? The worst fears came true. So it takes a sort of desperate attitude to be the first person to publicly admit love. The second person, if they are so inclined, has already been given a guarantee, so they get off easy. I'm inclined to say that a sneakier way is better, based on the other person's behavior. If you violate their personal space, are they attracted or do they push you away? And even then if you persist in getting close, the day might come when the light comes on for the other person and they start feeling differently.

For me, KKHH will always be a movie that stands for Bollywood. For me, whenever I rewatch this movie, I can hardly get through the first part because watching Tina get close to Rahul while Anjali seems to get left behind, just hurts too much. Call me juvenile (as my mother called me) but I started to hate Rani after watching KKHH. Most probably because her character got between the best couple, I believe, in Bollywood. But of course after watching more of Rani's movies I started loving her again. Also about the first half: the whole college part reminded me a bit of the 80s or something like Saved by the bell. The second half was much easier for me to get through. And this is where I start to realize that Tina didn't really want to get between them and wants them together. Yes, I know. I should've figured that out earlier but I'm slow. The songs were great except I don't like Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye. Only because it's too sad to listen to or even watch for me. About the subject of Anjali not letting her feelings out, I don't blame her. It would've been very scary. If he refused, their friendship would seem really awkward. If he accepted, then they would've been together but what if they broke up? It would have been really hard to strike up a friendship again after the hard feelings. Either way, I think Anjali was in a sticky situation. But of course, the movie had a happy ending and most probably Rahul and Anjali didn't break up. That's also why I agree with Rahul: Friendship is love. When a girl and a boy get as close as Anjali and Rahul did, it's hard to not love each other. okay, that was a long post. sorry.
