well.... this is one of Hindi cinema iconic films.... the funny thing is ..I watched this film without knowing anything about the legend of SRK-Kajol chemistry, I watched it because it was the second film on a 2 in 1 DVD.. and man..I loved this film too much so much sweetness and innocence .. a film that is superbly written, with excellent direction, and excellent performances from everybody!!

*Sigh* My favourite Bollywood film ever.
I actually saw this when I was about ten. And I just remember enjoying it a lot. I didn't know who the actors were or anything. Then I saw it again during high school and Kajol and SRK instantly became my favourite actors.
This really is an awesome film (minus the unneccessary fight scene at the end) and one that almost everyone loves.
The cast, the acting, the songs...everything in this film rocks. Definately a Bollywood classic.

No good deed goes unpunished! I lent my copy of this DVD to a friend of a friend along with DTPH and KKHH. She returned the latter two, but she still has DDLJ and the relations are such that I'm not comfortable demanding she give it back (it is hart to explain; there is some family politics involved!). I may just suck it up and buy another copy!

DDLJ, KKHH and K3G. Three films I do not under any circumstance lend to other people. I won't lend any of my other DVDs either actually, but these three are a huge 'no no'. I feel sorry for you Sam, I would go ballistic if someone didn't give me my DDLJ copy back. I think you should do the right thing and buy another copy.

Aah Sam, never give out your good DVDs. But there's an upside. She loved it so much that she doesn't want to give it back.

annous, that's the best way to watch the film - no huge expectations, just letting the magic work. The tag line "Come ..Fall in love" is so fitting because you either fall in love with the movie or don't.
I was lucky enough to fall in love with it and thus I agree with Amz, maybe my favourite Bollywood movie out of them all. I have a lot of favourites, a lot of films I may consider better than DDLJ but there is still no film I'm as in love with as I am with this one.
It's one of the films I can just put on if I feel crap and feel better 9 times out of 10. The Switzerland scenes, so cute and funny... The character of Raj truly is the perfect romantic hero, love this character possibly more than any character Shahrukh has ever played.
So far DDLJ is the only movie that I've written a commentary for. It was difficult writing it because I just wanted to keep watching, not comment on the film.

Anybody who can afford it, buy the collector's edition. I did and it cost me about $30, but it has all kinds of extra's, including interviews with all the main characters and Yash. And it was well worth the money. I got to hear how the real Kajol pronounces the letter "o" when speaking English. And SRK says there is one scene he enacts in DDLJ he could do over and over for the rest of his life just for the feeling it gives him, the parting where he tells Simran he won't come to her wedding. This is before his father convinces him that if he loves her he CANNOT let her marry another man.
Anyway, the catchline for this movie is "come fall in love all over again" and that's what it does for me.

I got the collector's edition also but I don't remember that part about SRK liking that scene so much. But I loved the part at the end with Kajol and SRK just acting goofy. DDLJ was my very first Bollywood movie and my #1 favorite movie. I really can't find any fault with it cause it's so close to my heart....except maybe the fight scene at the end. I had never known what the actors or actresses' names were in the beginning of my obsession and after watching this movie, I always called SRK, Raj and Kajol, Simran. I also thought that they were the ultimate couple and actually thought they were dating. Again, I was young and new to BW at that time. This was also the movie that introduced me to the old greats (or imo, greats) like Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, and Satish Shah. I just love this movie to death, which is probably why I love the characters Raj and Simran, and SRK and Kajol to death.

I say never lend a dvd you really really want back. I did it twice and got neither one back. And the failure to return my dvds has sort of spoiled what I hoped were long distance friendships. Its tempting when you want to be nice and someone REALLY wants to see a movie. But I think its just not worth it.

It's also good to spread the Bollywood love but it's not worth it if you don't get them back. I lent Devdas to my college tutor, it's been over seven months and nothing!

DDLJ is my all time favorite Kadz-SRK movie. This movie captures their chemistry in the best possible manner. All their subsequent films together, lacks this kind of intensity, passion and angst. I just see glimpses of it in some songs and scenes, but thats it. Even KKHH doesn't bring it out as well as DDLJ does. I love everything about it. Given a chance, I wouldn't change a single thing, not even the much hated fight scene in the end. It only made me like Raj more 'cause he fights to protect his dad and not for himself. Also, everytime I see this movie from now on, I will really miss Amrish Puri. That bulgy-eyed look won't be done to the same effect by anyone but him. The coolest movie has to be DDLJ. ;D The most romantic movie eva!
